Theme: Logical

Author/Opus: This is the 262th puzzle from our contributing puzzlemaster Grant Fikes.

Rules: (Combination of Minesweeper, Double Minesweeper, and Statue Park rules.)

Place each of the tetrominoes exactly once into the grid, with rotations and reflections allowed. No two tetrominoes can overlap or be orthogonally adjacent. Each cell in the tetrominoes is given a numeric value, and the numbered cells in the grid indicate the count of the values of the tetromino parts in all surrounding cells (including diagonally adjacent cells). Numbered cells cannot contain tetrominoes, and all of the space not occupied by tetrominoes including any numbered cells must be connected.

Answer String: For each cell in the marked rows, enter the total value of tetromino pieces present (1 or 2) for each filled cell and 0 for any numbered cell and any empty cell. Separate each row’s entry from the next with a comma. An example answer string is: “0220111102,0110220200,1102220102”.

Theme: Out of the Box

Author/Opus: This is the 92nd puzzle from our contributing puzzlemaster Murat Can Tonta.

Rules: (Combination of Minesweeper and Statue Park). Place each of the pentominoes exactly once into the grid, with rotations and reflections allowed. No two pentominoes can overlap or be orthogonally adjacent, and all of the space not occupied by pentominoes must be connected. Numbered cells indicate how many of the surrounding cells (including diagonally adjacent cells) contain parts of the pentominoes. Cells with numbers cannot contain pentominoes.

Answer String: Enter the length in cells of each of the shape segments from left to right for the marked rows, starting at the top. Separate each row’s entry with a comma.

Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 5:45, Master = 8:15, Expert = 16:30

Theme: Clue Symmetry & Logic

Author/Opus: This is the 6th puzzle from guest contributor Jamie Hargrove.

Rules: Place each of the twelve pentominoes into the grid once, with rotations and reflections allowed. No two pentominoes can overlap or be orthogonally adjacent, and all cells not occupied by the pentominoes must be orthogonally connected. The black circles indicate some cells that must be covered by pentominoes. Some numbers and arrows are also given in the grid. For all numbers that are not covered by a pentomino, the clues give the exact count of shaded cells in the given direction. A shaded over clue may or may not be true.

Answer String: Enter the length in cells of each of the shaded segments from left to right for the marked rows, starting at the top. Separate each row’s entry from the next with a comma.

Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 10:30, Master = 17:15, Expert = 34:30

Theme: Clue Symmetry and Logic

Author/Opus: This is the 5th puzzle from guest contributor Tapio Saarinen. You can find more of his puzzles on Perplexible.

Rules: Combination of Statue Park and Tapa.

Place 11 pentominoes (no P) into the grid, rotations and reflections allowed. Pentominoes cannot cover any cells with clues, and no pentominoes can share an edge (diagonal touching allowed). All remaining white cells, including those with clues, must be connected. Number clues behave like Tapa clues and indicate the length of consecutive shaded blocks in the neighboring cells. All ?s stand for clue values 1 or greater.

Answer String: Enter the length in cells of each of the shaded segments from left to right for the marked rows, starting at the top. Separate each row’s entry from the next with a comma.
