Our most recent week of Balance Loop puzzles can be found in this PDF and the solutions are all grouped in this PDF and have also been linked to the individual posts.
We have a solving video for four of this past week’s puzzles. First are solving videos for two of the regular Balance Loops, starting with the Forgotten Numbers by Grant Fikes:
Our solvers have found Pentominous to be a really great region division puzzle, so we are excited to announce the third volume in our e-book series, Plenty O’ Pentominous 3, has just been released on our e-store. Grant Fikes and Murat Can Tonta are back with another incredible set of Pentominous puzzles, including 8 Pentominous (Borders) variations.
If you are new to this puzzle type, here are our easiest Pentominous to get try out.
Yajilin and Battleships are two of our favorite Loop and Object Placement puzzles, respectively. What happens when you combine them? Our new e-book Yajilin Battleships by Serkan Yürekli will show you.
We’ve included here the example puzzle from the book which is now available for purchase. We have a companion solving video if you want to see what these puzzles are sometimes like. Some other prior posts with this style from Serkan, Freddie Hand and Grant Fikes are linked.
or solve online (using our beta test of Penpa-Edit tools; use tab to shift between Battleships placement and line drawing modes.)
Rules: Variation of Battleships and Yajilin. Place the fleet of ships in the grid so that different ships are not in adjacent cells that share an edge or corner. The grid contains internal clues (a number and an arrow) that show how many ship segments are in the indicated direction. All remaining white cells that do not contain a ship segment must be able to form a single loop, as in a Yajilin puzzle.
Solution:PDF; a solution video is also available here.
Later today we’ll be adding Yajilin-Battleships by Serkan Yürekli to our e-store and we’ll have another title next weekend as we begin publishing more books on our site.

We have a solving video for three of this past week’s puzzles. First is a solving video focused on an important heuristic for Cave puzzles, which was quite useful for the Tuesday Cave by Serkan Yürekli:
or solve online (using our beta test of Penpa-Edit tools; use tab to shift between shading mode and the linex mode where left click+drag draws lines and right click marks X’s)
Theme: Antisymmetry
Author/Opus: This is the 364th puzzle from Thomas Snyder, aka Dr. Sudoku.
First, we’re excited to have some new titles coming to our e-store — the first since our blog relaunch earlier in the year. I’m doing the last touches on two e-books now and will be adding Yajilin Battleships by Serkan Yürekli and Plenty O’ Pentominous 3 by Grant Fikes and Murat Can Tonta to our web store over the next two weekends. Watch for additional posts here when these fun collections are available for purchase.
Second, we have not found any quick fixes to the issues with logging into the solving/fave applet. This seems to be due to updated browser security checks when connecting to external sites. The fix likely requires moving the applet and database to be hosted on our servers and we are working with the external developer to see if this is possible, or if we should find an alternative self-hosted tool.
Our most recent week of Cross the Streams puzzles can be found in this PDF and the solutions are all grouped in this PDF and have also been linked to the individual posts.
We have a solving video for two of this past week’s puzzles. First is a solving video for my Cross the Streams (LITS):
or solve online (using our beta test of Penpa-Edit tools; use tab to alternate between a shading mode and a composite mode where left click inside cell shades square, left click + drag draws line segment, right click inside cell adds dot, and right click on cell edge adds an x.)
Theme: Foursomes
Author/Opus: This is the 363rd puzzle from Thomas Snyder, aka Dr. Sudoku.
Rules: Standard Cross the Streams rules. Also, the shaded region must be able to be split into tetrominoes to form a valid LITS solution (meaning all tetrominoes are connected but no two tetrominoes sharing an edge are the same shape, including rotations and reflections).
Difficulty: 4 stars
Time Standards (highlight to view):Grandmaster = 5:45, Master = 11:00, Expert = 22:00
Solution:PDF; a solution video is also available here.
