Please tell us what you like / don’t like about these new videos as we start to approach more competition-focused approaches to get solvers closer to Master and Grandmaster times.

In a few minutes we’ll have one more Yajilin, a Sunday Stumper, to close out this interesting week. Starting Monday we will have a set of region division puzzles split across Kuromasu and Spiral Galaxies styles.

New E-book, update and solutions

Our most recent variety week of puzzles, for our “Starter Pack” series, is gathered in this PDF and the solutions are in this PDF.

This week marks the release of Starter Pack 5: Star Battle by JinHoo Ahn, with 36 hand-crafted puzzles perfect for learning the fun object placement style Star Battle. All puzzles have a digital solving link provided in Penpa-Edit, as well as a solving animation to show how the puzzle can be solved.

We will have a Parking Lot (Hex) puzzle soon as a Sunday Stumper, which is slightly different from the Saturday puzzle that also had “Extra Parking” = empty cars and white cell connectivity.

Rules: Standard Minesweeper rules (with a hexagonal grid): Place a mine into some of the empty hexagonal cells so that each number represents the total count of mines in neighboring cells.

Difficulty: 3.5 stars

Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 5:30, Master = 9:00, Expert = 18:00

Theme: US Team for 2022 World Sudoku and Puzzle Championships

Author/Opus: This is the 424th puzzle from Thomas Snyder, aka Dr. Sudoku.

Rules: This puzzle from the US team t-shirts for the world championships is originally being released in an “instructionless” mode. It combines a common sudoku variation and a common puzzle type. More info is now available below.

Identity of the two rule sets: (highlight to view): This puzzle combines Thermo-Sudoku and Skyscraper styles. The combination of this style with no givens was first constructed by Thomas Snyder for the 2013 United States Puzzle Championship.
