Great Araf puzzle! The 2021 setup is practically tailor-made for some good Araf logic.
The penpa page links to this week’s battleship puzzle, and the automatic answer checking doesn’t seem to work for this puzzle.
Thanks for your feedback. The answer checking will work if you exactly follow what Penpa is checking (as described in the Rules tab) AND if your solution is correct. For Battleships this means having all 10 ships correctly placed with rounded corners / circles for appropriate ships in the fleet; for Araf, it means drawing all the borders between regions in the interior of the grid in green.
Because these can be easy to miss, we will provide the PDF image of the solution by the date on the post so you can confirm if it may be a subtle Penpa item and not an incorrect solution. We expect answer checking to be easier for some of the other styles.
I realize that my original message may be unclear, I meant tat the source link on this araf puzzle penpa page (below the Show rules button) was not leading to this page, but on
wednesday’s battleships puzzle page.
I had no problem with the checker for other puzzles this week, and figured out by myself the battleships constraints.
I triple-checked before posting, and was confident with my solution, but I just tried again, and the answer checker popped, I must have made some mistake before.
Thanks for confirming. I did not understand the question about the Battleships link but see we had made an error and will correct it.
I got the same answer as the one in the solution but the penpa autocheck didn’t get it.
Thanks for the feedback; it does work (as shown in my solving video) but can be tough to spot if something is missing. The solution checking confirms the presence of exactly the expected (internal) edges and so missing any single edge or having an extra one will not be marked as correct.
Something we ran into in testing is that you can accidentally draw an edge along the outside border (not visible behind the bold black line) which would also be treated as an extra edge not in the solution. We are seeing if there is a change in our formatting to prevent this kind of an invisible edge from making a correct looking solution be recognized as incorrect.
ah ok, that almost certainly is what is happening (hidden lines in the bold lines) since I’m always fiddling around with the mouse.
