Sunday Update and Solutions
Note that our solving widget/fave button is being fixed over this week and may temporarily be inaccessible; hopefully after the update is complete the issue that was keeping some people from logging in will be resolved. We will share more info when we know all functionality is working again.
This past week’s set of Tapa puzzles are collected in this PDF and the solutions are in this PDF.
The daily solution videos are on the posts and also linked below. We’ve been getting some helpful feedback on what you like about these videos as well as things we can be doing differently; please feel free to share your own comments as we continue to make these. We will eventually be making tutorial videos for how to use Penpa-Edit for each style, but as the interfaces are still being improved we have not done this for any genre yet.
This upcoming week will feature Sudoku puzzles and variations. We also expect to be releasing The Art of Sudoku 2 next Sunday. This long-awaited book features 180 hand-crafted sudoku puzzles, including 60 classic Sudoku, 20 Tight Fit Sudoku, 20 Consecutive Pairs Sudoku, 20 Even/Odd Sudoku, 20 Thermo-Sudoku, 20 Arrow Sudoku, and a variety section with 20 other Sudoku of different styles. We’ll be selling it as a complete collection or as three partial packs split out by sections (Classic only; Tight Fit + Consecutive + Even/Odd; Thermo- + Arrow + Other).
I see the new solving widget has been added, but I’m a bit unsure how it works for those of us who used the old one – going by the TOS page the data should have been copied over, but it seems the login data itself wasn’t – at least, I can’t login with those credentials.
Are we supposed to just register a new one and it’ll automatically import the old checkmarks, or was the login data also supposed to be transferred over?
Hi Michael — this is still in the midst of being rolled out and debugged, particularly trying to pull in the prior data. I hope to have an update in the next couple days when it is finished.
I love all the work you’re doing to get puzzles into penpa, and would definitely tune in to videos on how to use penpa with different puzzle types. One of the especially nice things about watching your solve videos on penpa lately has been noticing the little tricks you use to make the experience easier.
Hi Michael, sorry about the issues with the rollout. The first attempt at migrating the users failed after the first 500, so I’ve redone it and it appears to have everyone now. Please try it again and let me know how it goes. I plan to have all of the old solves and faves copied over tonight.
I was able to login and see my solving status from the beginning! It didn’t take my shop password (and I didn’t remember my password offhand from the external system) so I just had it send a reset e-mail. Everything worked from there. Thank you! -Loren
Thanks, David – I can confirm that I am indeed able to login now and have marked the past week’s puzzles as solved.
My old solve data doesn’t seem to be there just yet, but as long as it’ll happen eventually, that’s good enough for me 🙂
