Sunday update with solutions
Our most recent variety mix of puzzles can be found in this PDF and the solutions are all grouped in this PDF and have also been linked to the individual posts.
We have a solving video for the Friday Killer Sudoku by Grant Fikes:
and another video for the Saturday Slitherlink by Tom Collyer:
This upcoming week will feature Sudoku and variations.
Thanks for the instructive Slitherlink video, Thomas. At 7:25 you mentioned the 2 clue needed to go diagonally. Was that a premature deduction? It seems at that stage it could have been a parallel 2, which only becomes untenable once you use the logic about not connecting in the centre.
Hi Nick — I think my written notation may not be as clear at this point as I didn’t directly describe it in this Slitherlink video. Edges around a 2 can have one in/one out, or both in. The line don’t mean the full 2 clue is diagonal, it means at those points that one edge is along that direction (but only one edge). So while the overall options around the 2 in R9C5 could still include parallel lines, once you know the UR corner has only one edge coming into the 2, the diagonally opposite corner (the LL one) will have one edge coming up/right and the other edge coming down/left. This then means the LL corner of the 2 in R10C4 will also have an edge coming out of the LL away from the 2 (the only option being left). So my drawn logic is forced even if the words aren’t clear.
I can probably make an entirely different video about the parity of corners around 2s in Slitherlinks.
I see what you mean; I made the false assumption your diagonal lines implied the 2 was also diagonal.
Yes, a video on 2 corner parity would be interesting. I haven’t quite grasped the patterns yet, and always find myself working them out from scratch. I should sit down and work ’em out once and for all.
