Site update to https
Quick note that we’re migrating our webpages to use https instead of http and cleaning up other minor things as we enter 2017. The only major issue we’ve identified in going to https is with the solving applet hosted by thegriddle (to clarify: the way you input solutions and add favorites) which will not load unless http connections are allowed. We expect a fix to this issue in 2017 so that all content can be loaded securely.
If you encounter other site issues over the next week, please comment here or send a private message so we can address them as quickly as possible.
I think the solve-tracking widgets have disappeared from all the puzzles.
Thanks edderiofer for the comment. This is the solving applet I mention in the post that is hosted elsewhere; until that server becomes secure, the ability to enter solutions will likely be down unless you explicitly allow unsecure scripts to be run in your browser. A transition is in the works for 2017 that will fix this bug.
On firefox, click on the green padlock on the upper left corner and “disable protection”
Not sure if this is related to the https transfer or something else, but I noticed that when I disabled protection in order to get at the solution script, it seems to have completely lost all record of the puzzles I’ve solved.
Admittedly, I also don’t know exactly how the solution script works, in regards to where it’s storing data and the like.
Good point. I believe the script works by pulling the exact web address of the post. When it changes (and http to https would do this) it now records a new solution entry. I’ll point it out to Dave.
Hi Hikari,
Dave thinks he has patched this error and the older solves should now be visible.
Working as designed now, yay! At least that one was an easy fix. 🙂
