Am I entering the answer key wrongly?I have double checked my puzzle and it appears to be right but my solution is incorrect?!

  • Tablesaw says:

Can you confirm that the answer key is correct? I’ve checked my work against the solution and it’s still not being accepted.

  • Aaron Chan says:

It accepted mine when I entered it, but I am pretty sure I entered it wrong looking back. So……

It’s almost like there’s a relay puzzle here:

      Puzzle 1 is Grant’s Slitherlink.

Puzzle 2 is to mis-enter the answer string so the website will accept it.

Both puzzles appear to have unique solutions. I didn’t find any logical solution for the second puzzle, but I was able to solve puzzle it on my second try, (once I started intentionally guessing errors). Congratulations, Aaron on getting it right on the first try!

In other words, I believe I have confirmed that the answer key is setup incorrectly at the moment. And for what it’s worth, I’ve received the “Incorrect!” result many times before, and prior to today, it’s always been my own mistake in breaking the puzzle, mis-entering the answer string, or both. So even with today’s mistake, the website still has a much better track record than I do.

  • Jack Bross says:

Yeah, I’m suspicious of the answer key, here. Pretty sure I’ve got it solved and counted correctly.

  • Neelix says:

I initially solved this one in gimp, and had the same issue with the answer string as the others. I couldn’t see any errors on my part, so I entered the puzzle as a specific puzzle in Simon Tatham’s loopy, and solved it again there. The program confirmed that my solution (which matched my first solution) was valid.

Then I tried adjusting the answer string to be incorrect as mentioned above and I got lucky enough to match it after only a few attempts.

If anyone else is interested in solving the puzzle in loopy the Specific Puzzle string for this puzzle is:

    10x18t0:1a3g2d031311b0l2a2b211b2a3a2i0d2011b3a2a1b2h2d1h2b1a3a1b1010d1i3a2a1b313b1a3l0b021130d1g1a1

The answer key was entered incorrectly by me from the road, where I did not have the original solution with me to double-check. Our testers failed to note that I’d left out a critical digit in the entry.

So my apologies for the difficulties and slow response here. The applet should look unsolved for everyone now until the proper value is entered.

    • Carl W says:

Thanks! The correct answer string is working just fine now.

And considering how many times I’ve mis-entered answer strings, I can’t complain that one was finally mis-entered on the other end, (I certainly haven’t encountered that before).

      Keep up the great work!
