Author/Opus: This is the 94th puzzle from our contributing puzzlemaster Grant Fikes.
Rules: Variation of Sudoku rules. Instead of the digits 1-9, use the letters in “SHIRT PACK”.
Answer String: Enter the 2nd row from left to right, followed by a comma, followed by the 8th row from left to right. Use capital letters (i.e. “SHIRTPACK”) when entering each row.
Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 2:15, Master = 4:00, Expert = 8:00

Urgh. Took me 15+ minutes to solve. In the end I put numbers in for letter then substitute back.

I would have substituted 1=S, 2=H, 3=I, 4=R, 5=T, 6=P, 7=A, 8=C, 9=K, myself.
That’s certainly what I did. I guess that other numbering scheme was from just reading across left-to-right from the top?
11:05.Tough one!I am very certain that it wouldn’t have taken me even half of this time if I had assigned digits to the letters and solved it like a normal sudoku and this i think is probably the way the test solvers would have solved.
Well I solved it directly with the letters. I do think it slows the solve down a little bit, but generally feel I’m faster just going with the letters than first substituting, assuming the substitution time is inclusive in the testing time (which it should be if that’s the method used)
