From the Foxger’s Den #37: Fillomino (LITS)

Fillomino by Grant Fikes

or solve online (using our beta test of Penpa-Edit tools; use tab to alternate between a composite mode for line/edge drawing, a number entry mode, and shading for this variation.)

Theme: Visual and logical

Rules: Variation of standard Fillomino rules. All polyominoes of same size besides 4 cannot touch. But all tetrominoes — polyominoes of size 4 — must be connected as in a LITS puzzle. All “4” clues have been replaced by letters indicating which tetromino type they belong to.

Answer String: For each cell in the marked rows, enter the area of the polyomino it belongs to. For the tetrominoes, instead of numbers use capital letters (L, I, T, S) in the appropriate cells. Start with the 6th row, followed by a comma, followed by the 14th row.

Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 7:00, Master = 10:30, Expert = 21:00

09:50. About two minutes or so spent for figuring out the connection at the top because I made an incorrect assumption nearby. :/ The remaining minute might be able to be shaved if I solve this on paper 😛

Wonderful puzzle. The LITS portion affects the logic strongly, in particular said top portion. The rest is more or less “clean up”, but there’s some nontrivial logic in the middle too. Nice job 🙂

I think I know the exact assumption you made. Did it involve an S piece on the left side?

Great puzzle (11:20) … Loved the interplay between the two. Loved the pause and think moments, especially because I was able to move on each time. The ending was great, as noted in the prior comment. Loved the great use on LITS connectivity amongst the Filomino connections.
Super way to finish the LITS week, with two strong LITS variations/mixes.

    Thanks guys.

  • I spent a *long* time falsely believing that I couldn’t connect the two pairs of 6s near the top. Beautiful design!
