From the Foxger’s Den #36: Cross the Streams (LITS)
or solve online (using our beta test of Penpa-Edit tools; use tab to alternate between a Shading mode and a composite Yajilin mode where left click inside cell shades square, left click + drag draws line segment, right click inside cell adds dot, and right click on cell edge adds an x.)
This is a “Franken-Friday” puzzle variation.
Theme: Mostly logical; after solving, did you notice the message in the top few rows?
Rules: Standard Cross the Streams rules. Also, the shaded region must be able to be split into tetrominoes to form a valid LITS solution.
Answer String: Enter the length in cells of each of the black segments from top to bottom for the marked columns, going in order from A to B to C to D and separating each entry with a comma.
Time Standards (highlight to view): Grandmaster = 4:00, Master = 7:30, Expert = 15:00
Solution: PDF
Great Friday puzzle. Love the interaction between the two types… as they flow well together – back and forth – on the solution. Well done.
Thanks.

04:03 sigh. Closing a Cross the Streams + LITS puzzle is somehow always hard for me. 🙁
Nice puzzle. The interaction between Cross the Streams and LITS is very clearly depicted.
I’m not sure if I agree with everyone else that that there was much interaction between the two rulesets; my impression was that I solved about half the puzzle just as a cross the streams, which exhausted most of those clues, before changing gears and just focusing on the LITS constraints. (Of course, maybe being more flexible when switching between the two would have improved my time; I was rather happy with it until I saw what other people considered disappointing.)
None of this is to say I didn’t like the puzzle, though. I enjoyed it, including the moment at the end where it took me a few seconds to realize that it was actually over and I didn’t need to do anything else. Thank you, Grant!
It certainly solved in two parts for me, though that’s because I didn’t notice the LITS part of the rules initially…
…oops sorry to make you feel bad if you see my “sigh” after 04:03. I aim for Grandmaster in Cross the Streams and LITS puzzles, hence why 😛
Also, yeah, for me it begins with no LITS for about a third, but every time I find a tetromino to be forced I immediately put it, hence why I might think it to switch between rulesets often.
Hmmm, seem to be stuck on this one. Restarted 3 times, and each time I have run into an issue where I encounter conflicting S tertromino’s at C7R2 and C7R3.
